King Jesus operates differently than this world's kings. He knows who he is and that his kingdom is eternal. He doesn't fight to retain power. He gives love and power away through sacrifice. No other kingdom works that way. When we see the upside down nature of His Kingdom we will either embrace it through surrender or fight to maintain control. Pilate couldn't understand Jesus' reaction to the trial that led him to be executed on the cross. Jesus calls us not to fight with the world's weapons of pride and greed. Instead, we are called to serve, sacrifice and love.
When Judas betrayed Jesus, it probably hurt His heart. To know that to Judas, money was more valuable than life. But what I think is really interesting about Judas' betrayal is that he brought soldiers and officials and Pharisees, carrying torches, lanterns, and weapons. Why would Judas need to bring all those people ready to fight? I think Judas expected Jesus to fight back. Judas didn't understand that Jesus was going to go with them, willingly, because He knew it was the only way, and He LOVED us! Even while we were still sinners, Christ died for us! Jesus says later that His kingdom is not of this world. That is so true, because His kingdom does not run on power and authority from oppression on the people, but His kingdom runs on His love and grace and mercy! His kingdom seems backwards to the world, to the hearts that don't know Him. But when you know Him, He lets you see that it is perfect. It's the perfect plan, perfect timing, perfect place. Sometimes we don't fully understand it. But we know that God's ways are higher than our ways, His thoughts higher than our thoughts. He had a plan from the beginning! A plan to redeem every willing broken heart, and He will
