July 24, 2018 Luke Chapter 24

The discipels on the road to Emmaus were not able to recognize Jesus. Their expectations for Him had been shattered. They had no place in their minds for a crucified King. Jesus unfolds the Scriptures to them and then breaks bread in their home. It is then that they realize who He is. When we commune with Jesus in His Word and remember His sacrifice our hearts will burn within us.  Have you turned your eyes from other hopes to Jesus?

    What I see repeatedly in this chapter is doubt. The disciples doubted that it could really be true, that it could really be Jesus, because it just didn't seem possible in their minds. What they had forgotten was that anything is possible with God! Jesus had raised the dead to life before their eyes! Why would they doubt? Didn't they believe and know who Jesus was? Didn't they know His power and authority, even over death? Didn't they know that He was the Son of God? Don't we? We know it too. And yet we all doubt at some point in our lives. We are human. Flawed, not perfect, we make mistakes, we mess up, we miss the mark, we fall short. But we are forgiven. Because of what Jesus gave for us, we can be in the presence of our Father in heaven without being ashamed! We don't have to feel guilty because Jesus took all of our sins and He Himself carried them to the cross! He forgives our every doubt. But we don't need to doubt. The life He calls us to is a life that fully depending on God for everything! A life completely surrendered to Him! A life where He is rooted deep down in our hearts and we know who He is and what He can do and TRUST HIM! He is trustworthy!
