July 5, 2018 Luke CHAPTER 3
When asked how they should prepare for the Messiah, John the Baptist tells three different groups of people basically the same thing. All of his instruction has to do with money and possessions. How we deal with what we have is a greater indicator of our heart's true condition. Generosity and contenment reveal a heart that understands the gospel. Greed and materialism reveal hearts that need to repent. What does your stuff say about you?

One of the things that stands out to me from Luke chapter 3 is when God says in verse 22, "You are my Son, whom I love; with you I am well pleased." Jesus was the one and only Son of God! There was no other! And God let go of His beloved Son and let Him die on a cross like a criminal. Jesus had done NOTHING wrong!! Yet He went to that cross WILLINGLY for MY sin! And for yours! It was for us! God loved His Son so much, and yet, He let Him go! But He did it for us! Jesus was forsaken by God so that we don't have to be! God turned away from Jesus so that He doesn't have to turn away from us! That is INCREDIBLE LOVE!! Think about the pain that Jesus went through! Nails were driven through the hands that healed! The one and only King of the world was given a crown of thorns! And the Father had to look away from His one and only Son. Think about the pain in God's heart. He had to abandon His Son, who He loved more than we could even understand! Jesus carried the burden of our sins on His own shoulders, for us. If Jesus hadn't died, we would still be in separation from God. But Jesus took our sins on the cross, and traded to us His own righteousness! So that we can be with God and have a relationship with God! It's one thing to die for someone who loves you, but Jesus died for not only the ones who followed Him, but also the soldiers who mocked Him! And Judas, His betrayer! And Barabbas, the prisoner and criminal who was released! And all who doubted in who He knew He was! And all the Pharisees and the religious leaders! He died for all of them! And He died for me! For you! While we were still sinners, Christ DIED FOR US!! It was because of love! The love of the Father was too much for Him to let go of us, so He let go of His only Son instead! HE LOVES US!!!
