The religious leaders of Jesus day couldn't stand the people who Jesus spent time with (TW). If you are on mission with Jesus, people will have the same problem with you. Jesus leads us to the people who are broken and know their need of Him. All to often, the longer we've known Jesus, the fewer interactions we have with hurting people. When this happens, it is evidence that we have forgotten how much we need Jesus and have fallen into the deception of our own self righteousness. Loving Jesus will lead us to love the lost! Does your life reflect a love for the people Jesus came to save?
"It is not the healthy that need the doctor, but the sick." The Pharisees had the wrong idea about Jesus. They thought Jesus would be a great prideful King and honor them for all that they'd done. But they soon realized that's not why Jesus came. Jesus came for the lost. That's us! And He came for the ones whose hearts were willing to follow Him. The Pharisees thought that they were perfect people, that they were saved by what they had done. But God does not reign in only justice, but also grace. So Jesus went to the overlooked, the misunderstood, the weak, the orphans, the tax collectors, the people that everyone looked down on. Jesus reached out, to the broken, and offered them healing and life!
